چکیده

Coals mined in some regions of the Transdanubian Middle Mountains in Hungary have elevated concentrations of Ra. The slags and ashes derived from these coals have been used as building material for schools and kindergartens. As the Ra reached up in these waste products of coal-firing systems, the gamma dose contribution in the buildings, which contained them, was calculated. In these places the absorbed gamma dose rate could be reach the sevenfold of the global average values – 80 nGy hbut the annual effective doses are lower than 1 mSv due to the relatively short time of occupancy even in the cases of highest level. The radon levels do not exceed the 102 Bq m during the period when the people are in the rooms because of the frequent airing therefore, the assumed annual effective dose derived from radon not exceed 0.4 mSv.

Effective Dose Rate of Radon Gas in Jooshan Hot Spring of Kerman Province

Background & Aims: Human beings are constantly exposed to different radiations that have always been recognized as a health hazard. Radon -222 and its daughter products are major sources of natural radiations and a significant total inhalation dose is related to them. Hence, the measurement of radon activity in the environment has gained an increasing importance. In this study, with the measure...

Rn- 222 Concentration and Gamma Dose Rate Measurements in the Vicinity of Hot Springs in Kerman Province, Southeastern, Iran.

Introduction: Radon-222 gas is a radioactive, colorless and odorless element that can cause lung cancer and stomach in humans with alpha-ray emissions. An important source of Radon-222 is the output water in springs, especially hot springs to emit ionision radiation. In this study, Rn-222 activity concentration and gamma dose rate levels in water sample of some selected hot spr...

Measurement of Contemporary and Retrospective Radon Concentration in Ramsar Dwellings Using Polycarbonate Detector

The origins of radon gas are the amount of uranium decay in the soil that is released into space and through the interior gaps of  buildings. Radon can enter the respiratory system and cause radiation hazards. Recently research has identified Radon as the second leading cause of lung cancer after cigarette smoking. The indoor concentration of Radon progeny is mentioned as an important issue reg...

Radon monitoring in gas turbine and thermal power station A comparative study

Background: In this study, measurement of indoor radon and its progeny levels was carried out in Gas Turbine Power Station in Haryana ( India ), where natural gas is used as fuel. For comparison, the results of a study carried out in thermal power plant in Haryana are also presented. Radon being a ubiquitous air pollutant has global impact and its monitoring in the environment at work places is...

Investigating Indoor Radon Concentration Using CR-39 Detector; a Case Study of Gachin Dwellings in Hormozgan

Introduction: Radon is a colorless inert gas which decay products are the main component of natural radioactive elements that are naturally produced in under layers of earth crust by decay of radium and uranium. It enters through buildings via gaps and cracks. Radon gas decay products like alpha particle can increase the incidence of lung cancer in human. Since every person sp...
